Conference | 13Al+ Opportunities within the Icelandic aluminium industry 28.8.
The conference 13Al+ Opportunities within the Icelandic Aluminium Industry explores the current situation and future possibilities of aluminum production in Iceland.
The conference will be held on August 28 at 13-17 in Arion Banki, Reykjavik.
Iceland produces 800 million tons of aluminium annually, with smelters running on hydro power. Most of it is exported as raw material for further development and production. What are the opportunities of Icelandic aluminium as a material for local business and production? How should Icelandic aluminium be used in the future? How can design be used as a driver for innovation within the aluminium industry?
The speakers include foremost experts from business, aluminium industry and design.

Launched in 2012, 13Al+ is a pan-Nordic, cross-disciplinary project that brings together Icelandic designers and Swedish aluminium manufacturing companies to study the possibilities of aluminium produced in Iceland.
5 Icelandic designers, Sigga Heimis, Þóra Birna, Snæbjörn Stéfansson, Garðar Eyjólfsson and Katrin Olina to gain knowhow on aluminium in Möbelriket and Design Region Småland, Sweden, then to translate the knowledge into tangible products in cooperation with Icelandic and Swedish manufactures.
The first prototypes were introduced in Stockholm Design Week 2013, and later inDesignMarch 2013. This conference is the final event in the project.
